Damage
Damage is an amount of life subtracted from the target's current life, which is caused by weapon damage, fall damage, physics damage, or deployables.
Some weapons or explosives can deal damage to the player possessing the weapon, such as the Soul Scythe, which takes a portion of life when the special weapon meter is full, and explosives that do damage when they are too close to the damage area.

Self-damage
Is a type of damage caused by most of weapons or some skills which cannot be resisted, but can be reduced with Explosion Vest and Egocentric skill.
